I was inspired to make these small apps after reading Emergence: The Connected Lives of Ants, Brains, Cities, and Software by Steven Johnson (a great read btw, highly recommended). I'm fascinated by how a seemingly complex organic system can be created from such a simple set of rules. Make sure you try creating your own initial setup to see how it survives.
