From Brisbane rockers to Bangkok backpackers
Am finally starting to feel like I'm really on holiday. Me and Simon have definitely been having some fun and interesting experiences.
The Brisbane rockers...
Jessie (Simon's friend from NZ) and his five flatmates (Sandy, Brad, Dan, Mark & Brent) all play in a band called Function. We stayed at their flat for 8 days while in Brisbane. The first night we got picked up from the airport in the band's van and did a servo run into town to get mixers for the duty free me and Simon purchased as a peace offering for letting us stay at the flat. Needless to say that night was a bit of a late one. This kinda set the mood for the whole week which climaxed with their CD lauch gig at a seedy (but cool) pub that used to be a church called 'The Healer' - quite apt. Highlights from my stay there were; betting Simon four times at chess (hahaar! the tally's not looking so flash now though), the Brisbane Art Gallery (wicked interactive colour exhibition for kids and the aboriginies sure do know how to do cool things with dots), Playstation2 (loads of it), narrowly stopping short of a hunter spider in it's web while walking back up the rather large hill to Jessie's flat at night (those things have got bodies the size of golf balls), starting to learn the flute (it's not so easy), beginning to read Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time (i've now picked up a 2nd hand version on Koh San road - that place has got everything), and of coarse hanging with the lads a bit and watching them play, I think they're definitely on the way up.
Bangkok backpackers...
Absolutely loving Thailand this time around. Have been much more integrated with Thai culture than last time. No more Wats for me (well maybe a couple). Have been hanging with Simon's Thai brother 'Ken' and family and friends a bit. Bangkok suburbia, driving ranges, badminton, MASSIVE Bangkok outskirt malls, etc. Are going to be going to Ko Chang (an island south east of Bangkok) with them in a few days - should be really cool (they speak good english).
Should be getting into London around the 1st of August at this stage but could be sooner. All depends on how many Chang beers I have to buy Thais for losing strange Thai drinking games.
